ISLAMABAD, Nov 3, 2025:

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), in collaboration with the German Red Cross, hosted the “Pakistan Pre-COP30 National Dialogue 2025” under the theme “From Policy to Practice – Pakistan’s Voice for COP30 (Brazil)” at its National Headquarters on Monday. The event served as a key platform to amplify Pakistan’s climate perspective ahead of the upcoming COP30 summit.

Senator Sherry Rehman, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In her keynote address, she commended PRCS for convening a timely and strategic dialogue on one of the most urgent global issues.

> “Pakistan remains among the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations despite its minimal contribution to global emissions,” Senator Rehman said. “Climate change has become a monstrous challenge threatening human existence, with the poorest communities suffering the most as their livelihoods and futures are being stolen.”

Highlighting the divide between the Global North and South, Senator Rehman underscored the need for equitable climate finance, technology transfer, and adaptation support. She reaffirmed that Pakistan would present a strong and unified case at COP30, calling for “sustainable measures to confront worsening climate impacts.”

Acknowledging PRCS’s frontline role in disaster management and humanitarian response, she added,

> “The Red Crescent is always on the front lines, saving lives and rebuilding hope. Volunteers are the backbone of resilience—they must lead by example through tree planting, reducing carbon footprints, and fostering community awareness.”

PRCS Chairperson Mrs. Farzhana Naek thanked Senator Sherry Rehman and the participants for their contributions, emphasizing that climate change is a shared global responsibility requiring collective action, partnerships, and advocacy.

> “We anticipate strengthened cooperation, financial support, and capacity-building measures from COP30 to help vulnerable countries like Pakistan adapt and build climate resilience,” she said.

Earlier, PRCS Secretary General Mr. Muhammad Abaidullah Khan welcomed the guests and outlined PRCS’s ongoing efforts in climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and community resilience-building. He reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to working closely with national and international partners to advance climate action in Pakistan.

The dialogue featured key remarks by Mr. Asif Aman, Head of Office of the German Red Cross Pakistan; Mr. Farid Abdulqadir, Head of Delegation IFRC Pakistan; and Mr. Sajjad Kandhir from the Climate Change Adaptation Department. A dynamic panel discussion followed, featuring Dr. Altaf Abro, Majid Bilal, Raza Narejo, Qurat-ul-Ain Cheema, Zia-ur-Rehman, and Anam Zaib, who shared insights on policy implementation, green innovation, and resilience strategies.

The event concluded with a symbolic tree plantation ceremony, where Senator Sherry Rehman and Mrs. Farzhana Naek planted a sapling in the PRCS lawns, reaffirming their joint commitment to a greener and climate-resilient Pakistan.

Attendees included Ms. Beyza Taner, Head of Delegation, Turkish Red Crescent; representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Norwegian Red Cross, climate experts, PRCS officials, volunteers, and university students.
