CM Afridi directs legal reforms to prevent misuse of laws for political victimization; stresses balance between public rights and order in line with Imran Khan’s vision

 

Peshawar, November 8, 2025:

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi chaired a high-level meeting in Peshawar to comprehensively review the enforcement of 3 MPO, 16 MPO, and Section 144 across the province. The session aimed to assess the implementation framework of these legal provisions and ensure their alignment with democratic and public welfare principles.

 

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Afridi stated that every law has both positive and negative aspects, but his government would never allow laws to be used under political pressure or as tools of retribution. He said, “Freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest are fundamental rights of every citizen, and we will safeguard them within the bounds of law and order.”

 

The Chief Minister stressed the need to create a balance between the citizens’ right to protest and the convenience of the general public, directing the authorities to formulate a new operational strategy ensuring that demonstrations do not cause hardship to the people.

 

Reaffirming his commitment to good governance, transparency, and democratic integrity, CM Afridi said that all reforms will be undertaken in accordance with the vision of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan. He directed that laws should serve the sole purpose of public welfare, protection, and prosperity.

 

A four-member committee headed by Law Minister Aftab Alam has been constituted to review and propose reforms in the existing legal framework. The committee will identify and recommend removal of provisions prone to political misuse, ensuring that all legislation remains fair and impartial.

 

Chief Minister Afridi added that protection of life and property, along with ensuring civic facilities for citizens, remains the top priority of his administration. He appreciated the coordinated efforts of the provincial departments and emphasized continued diligence in upholding public trust.

 

The meeting was attended by Law Minister Aftab Alam, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
