Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga Marks Historic Milestone, Shafi Jan Hails Government Efforts
Peshawar, 12th November 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga, convened at the Provincial Assembly, has been hailed as a landmark achievement by the provincial government, said Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan.
Speaking to the media after the event, Shafi Jan praised Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and Speaker Babar Saleem Swati for successfully organizing the historic Jirga, expressing confidence that the recommendations presented would pave the way for sustainable peace in the province.
He noted that the Jirga witnessed participation from an array of dignitaries, including Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, opposition leader Dr. Ibad, former governors and chief ministers, tribal elders, leaders of political parties, representatives of civil society, and members of provincial and national media. All participants contributed valuable suggestions aimed at strengthening peace and stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Describing the day as historic, Shafi Jan said, “Today will be written in golden words in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” He revealed that 15 key recommendations were unanimously approved during the Jirga, which the provincial government will now implement through a consultative process.
A draft committee comprising representatives of various political parties has been formed to finalize the recommendations. Shafi Jan emphasized that law and order remains the foremost challenge for the province, citing recent incidents in Khyber, Katlang, Bajaur, and other areas. He added that in response to these challenges, the grand Peace Jirga – the first of its kind in the province’s history – was convened to bring together all schools of thought on a common platform.
Expressing optimism, Shafi Jan said the Peace Jirga is expected to serve as a milestone for lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Achieving peace is a collective responsibility,” he remarked, adding that the PTI government will honor the mandate of the people and ensure sustainable peace in line with the vision of Imran Khan.
