Pakistan Red Crescent Society Hosts Global Partnership Meeting in Kuala Lumpur to Strengthen Humanitarian Collaboration

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) successfully convened a two-day Global Partnership Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bringing together representatives from leading National Societies worldwide. This landmark event, the first of its kind in nine years, aimed to explore new avenues for collaboration, strengthen institutional capacity, and expand the reach of humanitarian services in Pakistan.
The meeting provided a central, strategically accessible platform for partners to engage in dialogue, mobilize collective resources, and enhance joint efforts across critical humanitarian sectors including Climate Change, Health and Care, Migration and Displacement, and emergency response services.
Dignitaries attending the event included Dr Yaseen Ahmed Abbas, President of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society; Alexander Matheou, Regional Director of IFRC Asia Pacific; Mr Farid Abdulkadir, Head of IFRC Country Delegation in Pakistan; Mr Christoph Sutter, Head of ICRC in Pakistan; Mr Asif Aman Khan, Head of German Red Cross in Pakistan; Dr Ulugbek Khusenovich Aminov, Head of Norwegian Red Cross in Pakistan; Ms Beyza Tuner, Head of Turkish Red Crescent in Pakistan; along with representatives from Canadian, Italian, Chinese, Singaporean, British, Japanese, Qatari, Australian, and Malaysian Red Cross societies, and other corporate partners.
During the meeting, PRCS highlighted its Transformation Plan and Strategic Plan, showcasing initiatives to improve systems and processes for more effective humanitarian service delivery nationwide. Thematic sessions focused on Climate Change Adaptation, Migration and Displacement, and Health and Wellbeing, while the second day emphasized commitments from partner National Societies to strengthen cooperation and joint action.
Chairperson of PRCS, Mrs Farzhana Naek, in her welcome remarks, thanked participants for their continued support, emphasizing that the meeting represents a milestone in PRCS’s ongoing transformation. She highlighted the importance of fostering deeper cooperation to enhance humanitarian impact for vulnerable communities across Pakistan.
Dr Yaseen Ahmed Abbas, President of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, commended PRCS for hosting a collaborative platform that enables knowledge sharing, coordinated action, and collective planning for a resilient future. Heads of delegation from IFRC and ICRC also addressed the gathering, while PRCS Secretary General Muhammad Abaid Ullah Khan stressed the growing humanitarian needs in Pakistan and the importance of collective action.
The meeting also featured sideline discussions between PRCS leadership and delegations from the Canadian Red Cross, German Red Cross, Red Cross Society of China, and Iraqi Red Crescent Society, exploring long-term partnership opportunities.
The event concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen global partnerships, scale up humanitarian support, and collectively address evolving challenges in Pakistan’s humanitarian landscape.
