Independent Report
Islamabad, December 8, 2025
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has highlighted that climate change is the greatest challenge of today, yet the province continues its journey toward sustainable development despite severe impacts. He made these remarks during a symposium on “Sustainable Development and Environmental Resilience in Balochistan,” organized by the Planning & Development Department.
The CM noted that Balochistan has faced droughts, unusual rainfall, floods, extreme heatwaves, and climate variability, affecting vulnerable populations most severely. Currently, 51% of households live in income poverty, and 71% of the population suffers from multidimensional poverty.
He emphasized that the provincial government has developed a comprehensive climate change policy covering energy, transport, agriculture, and water sectors. Renewable energy projects, electric vehicles, climate-smart agriculture, and forest and water management initiatives are underway. Carbon trading is also being promoted to access climate finance.
CM Bugti urged all institutions, international partners, private sector, and civil society to collaborate in addressing climate challenges and ensure a sustainable, resilient, and secure future for Balochistan.
