CM Maryam Highlights Pakistan’s Mountain Heritage on International Mountain Day

LAHORE, Dec. 11, 2025 — Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said in her International Mountain Day message that mountains safeguard ecological balance and enhance the planet’s natural beauty. She noted that Pakistan is blessed with some of the world’s most magnificent mountain ranges, and protecting them is a collective national responsibility.

The Chief Minister emphasized that awareness among tourists is essential for preserving natural landscapes, as mountains play a vital role in sustaining the environment. She highlighted that millions of tourists visit mountainous regions globally, significantly contributing to national economies.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif said a comprehensive master plan is being implemented to develop Punjab’s mountainous areas, particularly Murree, into world-class tourist destinations. Illegal hotels and encroachments are being removed, she added, noting that Punjab’s deserts, mountains, lakes, and rivers offer immense tourism potential.

She further stated that climate change is severely affecting mountain ecosystems, underscoring the need for urgent protective measures.
