LAHORE, Dec. 11, 2025 — Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari has categorically rejected rumors suggesting that Basant will be celebrated on multiple dates. She confirmed that the festival will only be held on February 6, 7 and 8, and kite flying outside these dates will not be allowed.

Bokhari said Basant will be regulated under a strict registration system. All kites will carry QR codes, and manufacturers, string makers and sellers will be registered and licensed. Only licensed individuals will be permitted to sell kites.

She said the system aims to eliminate unsafe and metallic strings that previously caused fatal accidents. The government will not allow any action that endangers lives, she added. The Traffic Police will distribute free safety antennas to motorcyclists for use during festival days.

She said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is reviving Basant responsibly to restore Lahore’s cultural vibrancy. If Lahoris demonstrate responsibility this year, the festival may be expanded across Punjab next year.

Bokhari added that cultural programs featuring music, food, and kite flying will also be organized to celebrate the event.
