Lahore, 21 December 2025: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on World Basketball Day expressed her government’s commitment to promote basketball and other sports in the province. She said that sports play an important role in instilling teamwork, competition, discipline and endurance in youth. She highlighted that world-class sports complexes are being built in Punjab and players will be supported through an endowment fund. Moreover, sports festivals and sports competitions will be restored, and Punjab League will be started in every union council. She noted that ‘Khelta Punjab’ program has been launched to promote sports in the province.
Chief Minister Punjab said that she is determined to build 300 grounds and sports complexes for youth in the province, as a construction and renovation department is being established, and Sports Endowment Fund has been increased from Rs 2 to 4 billion for the purpose. She added that 10 university students will also be members of Sports Advisory Council, and international coaches will be brought in to ensure state-of-the-art training of players. She underscored that Punjab’s magnificent victory in the 35th National Games with 126 medals after 37 years is commendable.
