The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) Virtual Blood Bank (VBB) has successfully completed its first year of operations, emerging as a vital digital lifeline for patients facing medical emergencies across Punjab. Launched on January 1, 2025, the initiative was established to ensure the timely availability of blood through a fast, coordinated, and technology-driven system.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, the Virtual Blood Bank has facilitated the provision of blood to nearly 9,000 patients within its first year, contributing significantly to saving precious human lives. During this period, more than 39,000 blood-related requests were efficiently handled, ensuring rapid support in critical situations. The platform has also seen strong public participation, with over 100,000 citizens, students, private institutions, and organizations voluntarily registering as blood donors.
The spokesperson said the Virtual Blood Bank is a modern, integrated emergency response system that directly connects donors with patients in need. The initiative, launched under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, strengthens emergency healthcare services while promoting civic responsibility. Citizens can access blood assistance during emergencies by dialing helpline 15, enabling swift coordination and timely life-saving support.
