Gilgit – Caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Justice (R) Yaar Muhammad, has described the Information Department as a highly important institution, stressing that the caretaker government firmly believes in free and responsible journalism. He expressed these views while speaking during an official briefing given by the Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department.
The caretaker chief minister said that concrete steps would be taken for the welfare of journalists and the promotion of the newspaper industry, adding that issues faced by the department would be addressed in view of its overall importance. He termed the establishment of an Endowment Fund for journalists a positive initiative and directed that effective measures be ensured for its proper implementation so that media workers can genuinely benefit.
Highlighting the changing media landscape, Justice (R) Yaar Muhammad said that social media has transformed communication in many ways and emphasized the need to promote its positive and responsible use. He noted that constructive use of digital platforms is essential for strengthening society and countering misinformation.
On the occasion, the Provincial Secretary Information gave a detailed briefing to the caretaker chief minister regarding the department’s functions, challenges, and future plans.
