Independent Report
Quetta: Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has launched a comprehensive project to install Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) smart meters on single-phase and three-phase electricity connections across Balochistan, aimed at providing significant relief to consumers and improving billing transparency.
Initiated under special directives of the Federal Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the project focuses on modernizing the power distribution system through advanced metering technology. AMR smart meters enable automatic and error-free meter readings, ensure accurate and timely billing, reduce operational costs, and enhance system efficiency.
Consumers can monitor their electricity usage through a mobile application, while all AMR functions are integrated with QESCO’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Cell, allowing remote monitoring and control. The system also facilitates timely detection of electricity theft, tampering, load monitoring, and reliable data recording.
Under the supervision of QESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Yousaf Shah Khan, installation work is progressing rapidly. So far, 2,934 AMR meters have been installed across all operational circles, including 1,340 in Quetta Central Circle, 438 in Khuzdar, 378 in Sibi, 292 in Makran, 283 in Loralai, and 203 in Pishin. QESCO has urged consumers to cooperate with field teams for smooth implementation.
