Islamabad, Jan 15: The India Study Center at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organized the book launch of “Defense and Diplomacy: A Compilation of Selected Articles by S.M. Hali.” Senator Nisar A. Memon, former Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production, attended as Chief Guest, while former Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman was Guest of Honour.
The event featured remarks by Sultan Mehmood Hali, Ambassador Naela Chohan, Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Haroon and Dr. Aalia Sohail Khan. The 12-chapter volume brings together essays on defence, security, strategic affairs and diplomatic challenges facing Pakistan and the region.
Ambassador Khalid Mahmood highlighted Hali’s prolific scholarship, noting his extensive writings over two decades. Senator Nisar Memon termed the book a culmination of sustained intellectual inquiry, underscoring the inseparable link between credible defence and effective diplomacy, particularly in light of recent regional tensions.
Dr. Khurram Abbas reaffirmed ISSI’s support for scholarly work, while the author described the book as a reflection of lived experience. Speakers praised the work for its indigenous perspective, strategic depth and relevance for students and practitioners. The ceremony concluded with the formal book launch and group photo.
