Independent Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received an official invitation from the President of the United States to join the Board of Peace on Gaza, the Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed on Friday.
The spokesperson said Pakistan will remain fully engaged with international efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in Gaza and achieving a just and lasting resolution of the Palestine issue in line with United Nations resolutions.
Reiterating Islamabad’s long-standing stance, the Foreign Office said Pakistan supports the establishment of a sovereign, contiguous and independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Any decision regarding participation in the proposed peace mechanism will be taken collectively by Pakistan’s political leadership and Parliament, keeping national interest and the aspirations of the Palestinian people in view.
The spokesperson added that, if included, Pakistan could play a constructive and stabilising role in advancing peace efforts and supporting humanitarian relief in Gaza.
