KARACHI: Bahria Foundation has successfully launched an indigenously designed and constructed Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) barge in a record time of eight months from a remote location near Jatti at the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD).

The 140-foot-long, 300-ton self-propelled vessel reflects the Bahria Foundation team’s strong technical expertise and effective project execution capabilities. The successful lowering of the barge into the creeks marks a major milestone in the Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) project, underscoring the foundation’s ability to deliver complex maritime projects within stipulated timelines.

According to officials, throughout the construction and launch process, the Bahria Foundation team worked diligently to ensure the vessel’s seaworthiness and full compliance with international maritime standards.

In addition to the newly launched Ro-Ro barge, the Bahria Foundation fleet deployed at Jatti Creek continues to actively support the PPL project. The fleet includes a refurbished spud barge, cargo barges, tugs, catamaran boats and a suction dredger, highlighting the foundation’s comprehensive capabilities in maritime infrastructure development.

The achievement reflects Bahria Foundation’s continued commitment to strengthening indigenous maritime capacity, reducing reliance on foreign expertise, and contributing to Pakistan’s long-term maritime growth and development.
