Islamabad/Kila Abdullah: Head of Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan and Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has said that the complete restoration and strengthening of democracy is essential to steer Pakistan out of its ongoing political and economic crises, stressing that the supremacy of the Constitution is the only viable path forward.
Speaking during an informal interaction with a delegation of senior journalists from Qila Abdullah Press Club in Islamabad, Achakzai said the country was at a critical crossroads and urgently needed constitutional and democratic reforms to ensure political stability and national progress.
He urged all democratic forces to unite and raise their voices on February 8 for the rule of law, democracy and political stability, including the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said continued political detentions were sending negative signals to democratic forces and warned that silence on such matters could weaken democracy in the long run.
Achakzai said poor policy decisions had pushed the country into deep turmoil, adding that the closure of the border with Afghanistan had severely damaged trade and industry, resulting in billions of rupees in monthly losses.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s survival depended on adherence to the Constitution and democratic norms, calling on all state institutions to operate within their constitutional boundaries. “No system other than democracy is acceptable in Pakistan,” he said.
Earlier, the visiting journalists congratulated Achakzai on assuming the office of Opposition Leader and discussed the prevailing political, economic and regional situation with him.
