Independent Report
Quetta: An intense cold wave has tightened its grip across Balochistan, pushing temperatures well below freezing in several districts and severely disrupting normal life, particularly in the northern and mountainous regions of the province.
According to officials, temperatures in high-altitude areas have dropped sharply, with Ziarat recording as low as minus 12 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest places in the province. Sub-zero temperatures have caused water pipelines to freeze, increased fuel consumption, and limited outdoor activities, especially during night and early morning hours.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of rain and snowfall starting from today, which is expected to affect large parts of the province. Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in Quetta, Ziarat, Killa Abdullah, Killa Saifullah, Chaman, Zhob and surrounding mountainous areas, while cold winds are expected to further lower temperatures.
In contrast, southern and western districts including Chagai, Kharan, Panjgur, Kech (Turbat), Awaran and Gwadar are expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Meteorologists say the weather system may intensify over the next 24 to 48 hours.
The harsh weather has already impacted daily life, road connectivity and travel in several areas. Authorities have advised residents, travelers and tourists to exercise caution, particularly in snow-prone regions, due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
Local administrations have been directed to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures to minimize hardships and ensure public safety during the ongoing cold spell and upcoming precipitation.
