Rehabilitation works of the left-side canals off-taking from Sukkur Barrage

SUKKUR: PD PMO SBIP, Mr. Pritam Das, visited the rehabilitation works of the left-side canals off-taking from Sukkur Barrage.

During the visit, the Project Implementation Consultant (PIC), Mr. Shahryar, and Ms. Carry briefed him on the rehabilitation of civil and mechanical works at canal head regulators being carried out during the 2026 annual closure activities. Regarding the civil works of Khairpur East Canal, repointing, grouting, 6-inch cement concrete overlay, stone apron, and stone pitching works have been completed, whereas CC block works are partially completed.

For Rohri Canal, repointing, grouting, and 6-inch cement concrete overlay have been completed, while stone pitching work is in progress. CC block works will be carried out during the next annual closure of Sukkur Barrage.

At Khairpur West Canal, repointing, grouting, 6-inch cement concrete overlay, stone apron, and stone pitching works have been completed.

Regarding Dadu Canal, repointing and grouting works are in progress. However, the 6-inch concrete overlay, CC block works, stone apron, and stone pitching could not be completed due to rising water levels.

The rehabilitation of mechanical embedded parts has been completed at the head regulators of left-side canals, including Khairpur East, Khairpur West, and Rohri Canal. Rehabilitation works for Nara, Rice, and Khairthar canals will be carried out during the next closure of Sukkur Barrage.

Later, PD PMO SBIP, along with Deputy Project Director Mr. Noor-ul-Arfeen Baloch, Technical Officer Dr. Imran Aziz Tunio, and AXEN Mumtaz Ghumro, visited the rehabilitation works in line with the high-level schedule for the visit of the President of the World Bank, who is expected to visit Sukkur Barrage on February 4.

SE Irrigation Khalid Jan Baloch and XEN Sukkur Barrage Ghazanfar Mubeen also accompanied the visit.
