GENEVA: The United Nations has warned that more than eight million people in Sudan will require urgent food assistance this year as conflict and displacement continue to worsen humanitarian conditions.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said food insecurity in 2026 could affect over 8.4 million people, including nearly five million children under five and more than 3.4 million pregnant and breastfeeding women.
The agency warned that about 4.2 million children and women face severe malnutrition, with over 824,000 children at risk of life-threatening conditions. The UN urged increased international support, warning that conditions are likely to deteriorate further without immediate humanitarian intervention.
