Gwadar, January 30, 2026: After a prolonged water shortage, the situation in Gwadar has largely returned to normal, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend water supply through tankers from the Mirani Dam. Officials of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) said the improvement is the result of an effective and coordinated strategy implemented under the leadership of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and the supervision of GDA Director General Moeen ur Rehman Khan.
According to GDA officials, the water crisis that had persisted since October 2025 has now been brought under near-complete control. In view of the current stability, tanker-based water supply from the Mirani Dam has been halted, although the system remains under continuous monitoring and can be restored if required.
Authorities noted that water availability has significantly improved through the Shadi Kor transmission line and the Chinese desalination plant. Recent rainfall has also replenished water resources in surrounding villages, reducing the need for emergency tanker supplies.
It was stated that tanker-based supply was a costly and logistically challenging option for the government, adopted only during extreme conditions. Under a phased strategy, daily tanker supply of 1.5 million gallons was gradually reduced to zero to promote a sustainable, long-term water management system.
