Independent Report
Quetta, Feb 9: The Medical Emergency Response Centre (MER-C) Balochistan has successfully conducted intensive training programs across 32 centers in the province, enhancing the skills of 19 medical officers, 288 emergency medical technicians (EMTs), 178 LTVs, and 210 supporting staff.
The month-long, workplace-based refresher courses were designed to ensure uninterrupted emergency services while staff received hands-on training. The curriculum covered instrumentation, sterilization, microbiology, autoclave operation, ventilation, oxygen dosing, portable ventilators, WHO emergency medication protocols, and primary treatment for head, spinal, femur, and burn injuries. Advanced life support, trauma care, disinfection, hygiene, and bleeding control were also integral components.
Training for LTVs and supporting staff focused on rescue operations, first aid, and safe patient transportation during emergencies, emphasizing teamwork and timely interventions.
Senior MER-C trainer Dr. Adil Ahmed Khan highlighted the importance of familiarizing medical and paramedical personnel with advanced research and modern emergency medicine techniques. Monitoring officer Hayat Shah praised the participants’ enthusiasm and stressed that the program’s goal is to provide high-quality, life-saving medical services across the province.
MER-C officials noted that portable ventilators in remote areas are critical for stabilizing patients when oxygen alone is insufficient. The training reinforces staff capacity, ensuring that Balochistan’s emergency medical centers continue to deliver timely and effective healthcare to accident victims and critical patients.
