Independent Report
Quetta, February 10: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has intensified its crackdown on units producing and selling unhygienic and substandard food, conducting operations across multiple districts to safeguard public health. Recent inspections in Quetta, Loralai, Usta Muhammad, and Panjgur resulted in the sealing of one sweets production unit and fines imposed on 38 other food outlets for serious violations.
In Quetta, inspections in Joint Road, Brewery Road, and Essa Nagri revealed one sweets manufacturing unit operating in extremely unhygienic conditions, with expired or unlabeled products, filthy production areas, and presence of pests, leading to its immediate closure. Additionally, 14 food outlets, including nine meat shops, were fined for practices such as displaying meat improperly, using contaminated cutting tools, and maintaining poor hygiene. Three other units faced penalties for operating without valid food licenses.
Enforcement actions in other districts included penalties for five outlets in Loralai, seven in Usta Muhammad, and two general stores in Panjgur. During the raids, authorities confiscated and destroyed large quantities of expired and banned food items to mitigate health risks to the public.
The BFA reiterated that public health and safe food supply remain top priorities, and warned that strict action against violators will continue without exception. Citizens have been encouraged to report suspicious food practices or illegal operations to enable timely intervention against health hazards.
