Quetta, February 10: Quetta Division Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar has ordered strict action against absentee and underperforming vaccinators, stressing that staff failing to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) should face suspension to enhance overall immunization and health service delivery in the division.
The directives were issued during the fourth quarterly review meeting of the Divisional Task Force for the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), chaired by Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar. The meeting included Provincial EPI Coordinator Dr. Aftab Kakar, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, DHO Quetta, Deputy DHO Quetta, and representatives from WHO, UNICEF, National STOP, PPHI, MSPRC, SKAU, as well as Deputy Commissioners of Chaman, Pishin, and Killa Abdullah joining via video link.
A detailed quarterly performance report was presented, highlighting measures to protect children from preventable diseases and improve access to health services. The review covered availability of medicines, doctors, and vaccinators at Basic Health Units (BHUs), staff training, digital data entry, identification of zero-dose children, and strategies to increase coverage.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar instructed daily monitoring of staff attendance, proper training on digital applications, and inter-agency sharing of absentee lists to ensure timely disciplinary action. He also mandated the installation of waste shredders and daily-rate incinerators in Chaman and Pishin within two days for safe disposal of hospital waste.
Further directives included activating all non-functional BHUs, ensuring proper deployment of vaccinators, providing essential facilities, and implementing special tracking measures for zero-dose children to increase immunization coverage. The Commissioner emphasized strict penalties for absenteeism or falsification of records, citing the urgent need to improve KPIs across the division.
Highlighting recent successes, he noted that 21 measles cases reported in Quetta block last year were controlled through timely intervention. District health officers were directed to regularly inspect BHUs, monitor staff attendance, and ensure availability of essential medical resources. Fixed vaccination sites will also be established at registered private clinics and schools, and IR services at EPI centers will be activated to expand coverage.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar called for coordinated efforts to eliminate polio and other communicable diseases, underscoring that the Divisional Task Force’s performance will remain under continuous review in line with special directives from the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary Balochistan to strengthen public health services.
