1.2 Tons of Narcotics Recovered from a Truck, 2 Smugglers Arrested
The Anti Narcotics Force, (ANF), while acting on an intelligence-based information, conducted a major operation in the Gwadar and achieved significant success against an international drug trafficking network. During operation, 1.2 tons of hashish was recovered, with an estimated international market value of USD 66.15 million.
According to details, ANF had been closely monitoring an international drug trafficking organization (DTO) operating under patronage of a notorious drug trafficker namely Ishaq Baloch. The network was involved in transporting narcotics from Panjgur to Turbat and onwards to Gwadar and Pasni, from where the drugs were smuggled via sea routes, using high-speed fishing boats to Gulf countries, Yemen, and Tanzania.
During surveillance, ANF Gwadar received information that the said network was planning to transport a large consignment of narcotics from Panjgur to Turbat through a truck. The drugs were later to be shifted via other means to the coastline for onwards smuggling abroad using the fast-moving fishing boats.
Acting upon intelligence, ANF intercepted the suspected truck on the PanjgurโTurbat National Highway (M-8). A thorough search led to the recovery of 1,200 kilograms (1.2 tons) of high-quality hashish, concealed in secret cavities of the truck. 2 suspects onboard the vehicle, were arrested on the spot.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the seized narcotics was intended for Ishaq Baloch, a notorious drug trafficker. During interrogation, the arrested suspects disclosed that the recovered drugs had been smuggled from Afghanistan into Pakistan and were subsequently planned to be exported abroad, through sea routes, using high-speed fishing boats.
A case has been registered against the arrested suspects under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, and legal proceedings initiated to arrest the main source of supply (SoS) and other members of the network.
Despite limited resources and manpower, ANF remains fully committed to combating drug trafficking not only across Pakistan but also at the international level.
The recent operation reflects ANFโs strong resolve and unwavering commitment in eradicating the menace of narcotics.
