QUETTA, February 11, 2026: Secretary Forests and Wildlife Balochistan, Imran Gichki, has highlighted that while tree planting is important, ensuring their proper care, protection, and growth is even more critical for achieving lasting environmental sustainability.
“Planting trees is just the first step. Nurturing saplings, providing adequate water, safeguarding them from damage, and supporting their healthy development is a shared responsibility. A thriving green environment secures a better future for generations to come,” he said.
Following directives from Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Provincial Minister for Forests Sardar Masood Luni, the secretary issued instructions to departmental officers to not only execute a comprehensive tree plantation campaign across the province but also to implement stringent post-plantation care measures.
Gichki noted that substantial public resources are dedicated to afforestation efforts, but true success depends on the survival and growth of the saplings. He warned that without proper follow-up, investments risk being wasted.
He directed all districts to deploy water tankers to plantation sites and assign dedicated personnel responsible for monitoring, safeguarding, and maintaining saplings. Each district is required to prepare a detailed post-plantation care plan, including irrigation schedules, personnel assignments, and monitoring protocols. Formal written directives must be issued to ensure compliance, and no negligence will be tolerated. Documentation of plantation and post-plantation activities, including photographs and videos, is mandatory to maintain transparency and facilitate performance evaluation.
Appealing to citizens, Gichki urged the public to treat tree protection as a collective responsibility and actively participate in safeguarding saplings in neighborhoods, villages, and urban areas.
He reaffirmed that, in line with the vision of the Chief Minister and Provincial Forests Minister, tree plantation and care initiatives will be prioritized to foster a greener and more sustainable environment throughout Balochistan.
