Lahore, February 13: Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed gratitude over the successful completion of more than 10,000 free heart surgeries for children from across Pakistan under the Chief Minister Children Heart Surgery Program.
According to official details, 10,331 surgeries have been completed so far. The highest number of beneficiaries came from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (425), followed by Azad Jammu & Kashmir (250), Federal areas (107), Gilgit-Baltistan (34), Balochistan (28), and Sindh (27).
The Chief Minister inaugurated a new ICU at Children’s Hospital Lahore and met young heart patients undergoing treatment. She attended a special ceremony marking the milestone and viewed a documentary highlighting the program’s achievements.
Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique said the initiative continues to expand services, while Vice Chancellor Masood Sadiq noted that around 50,000 children are born annually with heart disease in Pakistan, half of whom require immediate surgery.
The government has increased cardiac surgeons to 12 and cardiac physicians to 34, alongside 800 cochlear and 200 bone marrow transplants under allied programs.
