Balochistan Accelerates Mega Development Drive to Transform Public Services and Urban Infrastructure

Quetta, February 18, 2026 – Under the leadership of Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakil Qadir Khan, a high-level progress review meeting on strategic development projects was convened to evaluate ongoing initiatives across the province. During the session, officials were instructed to maintain strict oversight over all projects and ensure their timely completion.
Shakil Qadir Khan emphasized that the provincial government is committed to public welfare and economic progress. He noted that the ongoing projects are designed not only to expand essential services but also to significantly reshape the province’s overall landscape.
Officials highlighted the government’s initiatives through the Balochistan Education Foundation, which have led to the establishment of 1,663 new schools, resulting in the enrollment of over 100,000 children, with further increases expected by March. Under the BSDI program, 229 development projects have been completed, while work continues on 682 ongoing projects. Additionally, construction of two extra classrooms in 3,000 schools has commenced in four districts so far.
The meeting also reviewed strategic projects slated for the current year’s first phase, including electrification of eight towns via solar systems, Command Area Development initiatives, deployment of fiber-optic internet at 1,149 schools and colleges, implementation of Safe City projects for urban centers, improvement of municipal services, establishment of citizen complaint redress mechanisms, provision of clean drinking water, and broader urban development programs.
Chief Secretary Shakil Qadir Khan underlined that the completion of these development schemes will substantially enhance living standards and provide citizens with improved access to essential services.
