PESHAWAR, Feb 17: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority launched a major crackdown under its Ramadan action plan, seizing 3,000 kilograms of dead and non-slaughtered chicken from Bacha Khan Chowk and sealing an adulterated spice production unit.
According to officials, food safety teams raided a chicken shop and recovered a large quantity of unsafe poultry. The confiscated meat was disposed of at the Waste Services Peshawar dumping site in line with standard operating procedures.
During the operation, a spice processing unit was sealed after adulteration was confirmed. Samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis.
In a separate action at Hayatabad Industrial Estate, authorities confiscated 200 liters of expired cold drinks, mislabeled food items, and 2,500 caps of renowned brands allegedly meant for fraudulent packaging.
Inspections were also conducted in University Town, where university canteens were fined for hygiene violations and issued improvement notices.
Director General Kashif Iqbal Jilani said strict action would continue under the provincial food safety law to ensure the provision of safe, quality, and halal food across the province.
