Jacobabad: Irrigation department faces allegations, canal cleaning funds misused

Jacobabad: Serious allegations have emerged against the local irrigation department in Jacobabad. Over PKR 116.48 lakh was allocated in February 2026 for canal cleaning, yet most canals remain clogged with mud, debris, and weeds, disrupting water flow and threatening agricultural lands. Locals claim the canal cleaning remained largely on paper, while contractors received payments without effective work being done. Farmers and civic groups have demanded a transparent inquiry and strict action against responsible officials to ensure water supply and agricultural relief.
