Karachi, February 21 (Independent Report): The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has reacted strongly to remarks attributed to Mir Sarfraz Bugti, in which he reportedly claimed that newspapers are less read in Balochistan.
In an official statement, APNS maintained that newspapers remain the most credible and authentic source of information for the people of Balochistan. The body emphasized that print media plays a vital role in promoting public awareness, constructive dialogue, accountability, and democratic values. At a time when social and digital media platforms are often criticized for spreading misinformation and fake narratives, newspapers continue to uphold responsible journalism and editorial standards, the statement added.
APNS further noted that in a province facing challenges such as terrorism and underdevelopment, newspapers have consistently fulfilled their duty of informing citizens under difficult circumstances. The society urged the Balochistan government to take concrete steps to promote and strengthen the print media sector.
It also demanded that newspaper owners, editors, and stakeholders be included in consultations for framing a new media policy for the province.
