Lahore, May 8, 2025 – The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has taken a progressive step toward digital reform by appointing Jannat Abuzar as Advisor on Digitization. A foreign-trained professional renowned for her expertise in digital governance and innovation, Abuzar is expected to play a pivotal role in modernizing the operations of the FTO office.

Abuzar’s appointment coincides with a national push for digital transformation in public service delivery in Pakistan. With a global academic record and practical experience in technology-driven policy implementation, she brings a fresh vision to the institution.

Mandate and Responsibilities

In her new role, Abuzar will be responsible for formulating and implementing strategies aimed at:

  • Digitizing complaint-handling mechanisms,

  • Improving transparency,

  • Reducing response times, and

  • Enhancing overall efficiency of FTO services.

She will also advise on the development of user-friendly digital platforms and the integration of data analytics for performance monitoring.

Advisor’s Vision and Initiatives

Abuzar also plans to initiate collaborations to create a sustainable digital ecosystem within the FTO. Her focus areas include:

  • Launching training programs and capacity-building initiatives for FTO staff,

  • Automating case-handling processes to streamline operations.

Officials at the FTO Secretariat expressed confidence that this strategic appointment will accelerate the institution’s digital journey. They noted that digitalization is not only essential for taxpayer convenience but also for building trust and credibility in the tax grievance process.

The appointment was widely welcomed by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and other stakeholders. LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, along with tax professionals, digital policy experts, and business leaders, described the move as forward-thinking, aimed at strengthening taxpayer facilitation and aligning the FTO with global best practices.
