PFA & Nutrition International join hands to promote food fortification

Lahore, June 30, 2025:* A delegation of Nutrition International met with Director General Punjab Food Authority Muhammad Asim Javaid at PFA headquarters to discuss collaborative efforts for public health improvement through food fortification.

Both sides exchanged views on promoting food fortification and the inclusion of essential micronutrients in food items. DG said that an effective action plan would be prepared on priority to ensure the availability of fortified food across Punjab.

He said that the Punjab Food Authority in collaboration with Nutrition International, would soon launch awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of food fortification and nutritional security for public health.

DG said that PFA is working on fortifying salt with iodine, flour with iron and zinc and ghee and oil with vitamins A and D. He maintained that food fortification plays a key role in addressing nutritional deficiencies and preventing diseases. “Fortified food helps overcome iron, iodine, and vitamin deficiencies in human body,” he said. He futher said that making food more nutritious remains a top priority for PFA alongside routine inspections being carried out across the province.

Nutrition International Program Manager Muhammad Dawood appreciated PFA’s ongoing efforts and said that Director General Asim Javaid’s commitment to enhancing nutritional standards in Punjab is commendable.
