Specai Report.
In view of security measures and to ensure peace and order during the sacred days of Muharram, mobile phone and internet services have been suspended across the country starting from last evening. The suspension, which will continue for two consecutive days — the 9th and 10th of Muharram — has been implemented in coordination with law enforcement agencies and local administrations.
These precautionary steps have been taken in light of potential threats and to support the efforts of security forces in maintaining harmony during processions and religious gatherings. Every year, the government adopts similar security protocols during the month of Muharram, especially on Ashura, to prevent any untoward incidents.
Citizens in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and other regions are experiencing complete or partial disruption in cellular networks and internet connectivity. The Interior Ministry had earlier issued directives in this regard, emphasizing the need for temporary digital blackouts as part of standard operating procedures for national safety.
While the suspension of communication services may cause inconvenience to the general public, authorities have urged for patience and cooperation, reminding everyone of the spiritual importance of these days and the collective responsibility to ensure a peaceful environment.
The services are expected to be restored gradually once the security situation normalizes following the completion of Muharram processions and majalis.
