KARACHI: The Sindh Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recovered a record amount of over Rs 20 billion from various federal and provincial departments in just one year.
According to details, Chairman of the Sindh Assembly PAC, Nisar Khuhro, briefed Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the recoveries made against corruption and irregularities here on Monday.
He informed that recoveries were made from institutions such as Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, K-Electric, Pakistan Steel Mills, and Pakistan Machine Tool Factory and rest of Sindh government departments and others. These recoveries helped return Rs 20 billion to the Sindh government.
Nisar Khuhro told Bilawal Bhutto that the Auditor General of Pakistan acknowledged this as a historic recovery figure, noting that such a large recovery had never been achieved before.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also appreciated Nisar Khuhro’s performance and expressed confidence in his leadership, recognizing the success in ensuring payments owed to the Sindh government by major institutions.
He further stated that the Sindh PAC, being a constitutional accountability body linked with the Parliament, is playing a commendable role.
Bilawal emphasized the need for other ministers and departments to curb corruption and irregularities and called for more transparency with the support of the PAC to correct systemic flaws.
During the briefing PPP Sindh General Secretary Waqar Mehdi and Information Secretary Aajiz Dhamrah were present on the occasion.
Additionally, Nisar Khuhro and Waqar Mehdi briefed Bilawal on the current organizational matters of the party in Sindh.
Bilawal Bhutto and Aajiz Dhamrah also discussed the Indian water aggression and its impacts.
Following Bilawal’s directives, emphasis was laid on completing the organizational structure of the party at the grassroots level across Sindh and launching a mass contact campaign.
