Khanqah, August 27 (SPECIAL REPORT) – The Chenab River’s discharge near Khanqah is being recorded at over one million cusecs, significantly exceeding the headworks’ design capacity of 800,000 cusecs, raising safety concerns regarding the facility’s hydro structures.

Irrigation department officials say this surge in inflow could stress the gates and spillways, risking damage to critical components if the pressure persists.

Authorities are closely monitoring river gauges and considering emergency measures to mitigate downstream impacts.

Experts say the threat will remain until flows subside, necessitating precautionary measures and prompt assessment by engineering teams
