PRCS Organises Cycling Rally “Pedal for the Planet” on Zero Emission Week Celebration

ISLAMABAD: To mark Zero Emission Week, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), with the support of the German Red Cross, organised a Cycling Rally under the theme “Pedal for the Planet” in Islamabad. The event brought together the PRCS volunteers, National Headquarters staff, movement partners, including the Honourable Chairperson PRCS, Mrs Farzhana Naek, Head of IFRC Delegation in Pakistan, Mr Farid Abdul Kadir, Secretary General Mr Muhammad Abaid Ullah Khan and a representative of the German Red Cross.
The cycling rally highlighted the urgent need for climate action and the adoption of sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyles to combat the growing challenges of climate change in Pakistan. PRCS Volunteers participated in the rally through designated routes in Islamabad, spreading the message of reducing carbon footprints and promoting greener alternatives for a healthier planet.
The Secretary General PRCS Mr Muhammad Abaid Ullah Khan welcomed the participants and spoke about the challenges we are facing today related to Climate Change.
Speaking on the occasion, *Honourable Chairperson PRCS, Mrs Farzhana Naek, said:*
We must change how we live and consume. This means reducing waste, conserving energy, adopting sustainable transport such as e-vehicles, cycling, and public transit, and expanding urban greenery through reforestation. Each citizen has a role to play in creating an eco-friendly Pakistan. She further said, Zero Emission week is a reminder that governments, humanitarian organisations, the private sector, and citizens must stand together. The Pakistan Red Crescent Society is committed to being part of this journey, but it requires every hand and every heart.
The event reaffirmed PRCS’s commitment to promoting climate awareness, sustainable living, and community engagement in line with global efforts to address the climate crisis.
