Sindh CM, US Chargé d’Affaires Discuss Flood Response, Food Security, Energy and Investment

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met US Chargé d’Affaires Ms Natalie Ashton Baker at CM House to discuss flood preparedness, food security, energy cooperation, the Keti Bandar port project, and investment opportunities in Sindh.
US Consul General Charles Goodman and other officials also attended. The CM reaffirmed commitment to the Keti Bandar port project, terming it a vision of Benazir Bhutto and stressing its role in easing Karachi Port’s burden. Ms Baker announced that senior US company executives would soon visit Karachi to explore investments, with Shah assuring full government support.
Talks also focused on Thar coal projects, early warning systems, urban drainage, and $2.25m in US aid for flood-hit communities, alongside military assistance with boats, tents, and pumps. On food security, Shah highlighted wheat shortages and high import costs, urging urgent measures.
The CM praised US assistance under the INL programme for police training, equipment, women police barracks, and prison reforms, noting $20m provided in protective gear. Ms Baker commended Sindh Police officer DSP Manisha Rupeta’s international representation and lauded provincial efforts against extremism.
Both sides also explored initiatives for persons with disabilities, with US firms showing interest in supporting education and job training for hearing-impaired children.
