Port Qasim Authority Marks World Maritime Day 2025
Theme: “Our Sea, Our Responsibility, Our Opportunities”

KARACHI: The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) organized a special ceremony to mark World Maritime Day 2025 under the theme “Our Sea, Our Responsibility, Our Opportunities.” The event highlighted the importance of oceans and raised awareness about the challenges and threats they face.
The program featured a presentation by the Environment Department on “Sustainability and Prevention of Marine Pollution at PQA,” a session by Harbor Control/VTS on “Safety of Navigation and Technological Advancements,” and a short video/slide show showcasing PQA’s role in Pakistan’s economy and maritime trade.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the National Flag and IMO Flag to the tune of the national anthem, followed by the official IMO message and a brief inaugural address by Rear Admiral (R) Syed Moazzam Ilyas HI(M), Chairman PQA.
In his remarks, the Chairman said that under the leadership of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, PQA had taken strategic steps to enhance port capacity and leverage its position in regional maritime markets. He emphasized that several projects were underway, including capacity expansion, adoption of new technologies for port modernization, strengthening logistics supply chains, and promoting greener shipping to ensure seamless operations for both national and international trade.

The ceremony concluded with a reaffirmation of PQA’s commitment to safe and sustainable shipping.
