Muzaffarabad, September 29 — Tensions flared in Azad Kashmir on Sunday after the Joint Awami Action Committee’s (JAAC) protest call failed to gain public support, leading to violent incidents in Muzaffarabad and Battal.

According to sources, armed miscreants associated with the JAAC attacked a peace rally organized by the Muslim Conference in Muzaffarabad, injuring at least 11 citizens through indiscriminate firing. In Battal, JAAC activists reportedly blocked an ambulance, resulting in the death of an elderly man, Muhammad Sadiq, who could not receive timely medical aid.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that protesters used slingshots and weapons to target police personnel, further exposing the violent intentions behind the movement. Residents, outraged by the obstruction of ambulances and damage to public order, dismantled barricades erected by JAAC supporters.

Law enforcement agencies have begun legal action against the perpetrators and ringleaders, with reports indicating the presence of wanted criminals within the protest crowds. Security forces remain deployed to restore calm and ensure that no one disturbs peace under the guise of political protest.

Meanwhile, the JAAC’s broader protest call was largely rejected by the people of Azad Kashmir, as most markets and shops across major cities remained open and daily life continued unaffected. Officials confirmed that opportunistic elements, frustrated by the strike’s failure, resorted to vandalism and violence in isolated areas.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in rioting, destruction of public property, and inciting unrest.
