Independent Report
Naseerabad, Sep. 29 : The Irrigation Department of Balochistan has taken extensive measures to meet its Green Belt targets in Naseerabad Division, raising strong hopes for a bumper Kharif crop this year, particularly rice.
Superintending Engineer Irrigation Circle Naseerabad Ghulam Sarwar Bangulzai said that under the guidance of Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Secretary Irrigation Saleh Muhammad Nasir, and Chief Engineer Canals Nasir Majeed Baloch, all field engineers have worked tirelessly to ensure timely water supply to farmers across command areas.
Water has been supplied through Nasir Branch, Temple Branch, Jhdr Branch, Jhat Pat Branch, Mohabbat Branch, Qaidi Branch, Umrani Branch, and Rupa Branch, in addition to central canals and outlets. Sohbatpur areas were irrigated via Uch and Manjhooti, while Kirther Canal provided water to Damb, Faizabad, Khanpur, Noorpur, Gandakha, Bagh Head, Dori, Kombo, and Mithri, resulting in large-scale rice cultivation.
Bangulzai said despite challenges, water supply was maintained, and officers remained in the field to resolve issues promptly. Farmers’ consultations were incorporated, and the public has acknowledged the department’s efforts.
He added that for the upcoming Rabi season, the department will continue water distribution across command areas, while deficiencies will be addressed. Strict measures are being taken against illegal water connections and misuse, with actions based on fairness and equality. Farmers were urged to avoid water wastage and pay their water taxes (abiana) on time to strengthen provincial finances for future development projects.
The Superintending Engineer further said that with the special interest of Commissioner Naseerabad and support from Deputy Commissioners, results have been positive. The department is also making successful use of Kachhi Canal to cultivate crops in Sui areas, benefiting local communities.
He reaffirmed that the Irrigation Department, in close cooperation with the provincial government, remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring sustainable agricultural growth in the Green Belt region of Balochistan.
