Gwadar Officials Formulate Emergency Strategy to Tackle Water Crisis on CM Sarfraz Bugti’s Directive
GWADAR, October 8, 2025:
On the directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, an important meeting was held in Gwadar to address the city’s worsening water crisis. The meeting was chaired by Chairman Gwadar Port Authority and Coordinator to the Chief Minister on Water and Power, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, with Member Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch as the special guest.
The session brought together representatives from various political parties, civil society, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), the Municipal Committee, and the district administration. The objective was to develop a comprehensive and long-term strategy to ensure sustainable water supply across Gwadar and its adjoining areas.
Prominent participants included Chief Engineer GDA Haji Syed Muhammad, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Abdul Shakoor, Assistant Commissioner Saad Kaleem Zafar, XEN PHE Momin Baloch, Chairman Municipal Committee Majid Johar, Vice Chairman District Council Rahmatullah Hot, and several local leaders and social representatives.
During the meeting, Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch announced a new formula for water distribution, ensuring fair and transparent supply across the district. He directed that areas without water pipelines should immediately be served through water bowsers, with the number and capacity of bowsers increased based on local demand.
He also instructed the GDA to expedite installation of new pipeline connections through the Municipal Committee and local councilors to minimize water wastage. A helpline service will soon be launched jointly by the Municipal Committee Gwadar and GDA to address public complaints regarding water supply.
Furthermore, he announced that regions outside GDA’s jurisdiction, including Mondi, would now fall under the supervision of the Public Health Engineering Department for water supply management.
Chairman Noor-ul-Haq reaffirmed that all institutions would collaborate to overcome the emergency situation, while the district administration assured complete support for the ongoing operations.
It is noteworthy that on the special instructions of the Chief Minister Balochistan, the government has already begun supplying water through emergency water bowsers to Gwadar city and its suburbs. The meeting also finalized the quantity and delivery mechanisms for water distribution in key areas, including TTC Colony, New Town, Bakhshi Colony, Shambe Ismail, and Old Town.
