All Parties Hurriyat Conference Rejects India-Afghanistan Foreign Ministers’ Remarks on Jammu & Kashmir
Special Report
Islamabad, Oct. 12 —
The Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Ghulam Mohammad Safi, has strongly rejected the statement made by the Foreign Ministers of India and Afghanistan regarding Jammu and Kashmir, declaring that Kashmir is not an integral part of India but an internationally recognized disputed territory.
He said that the stance presented in the joint press conference contradicts United Nations Security Council resolutions, which clearly recognize Kashmir as an unresolved dispute and call for a free and impartial plebiscite to determine the will of the Kashmiri people.
Safi emphasized that India’s claim of Kashmir being its “integral part” is a violation of historical facts, international law, and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Expressing deep regret over the Afghan Foreign Minister’s remarks, he said that it is highly disappointing to see a brotherly Muslim country endorsing India’s position. He added that Afghanistan, having itself endured decades of foreign occupation and conflict, should stand in solidarity with the Kashmiri people based on justice, principles, and Islamic brotherhood.
He stated that the Kashmiri freedom struggle is not an extremist or border dispute, but a legitimate and peaceful movement for the right to self-determination, as acknowledged by the United Nations.
Safi noted that India has occupied Jammu and Kashmir by force since 1947, subjecting millions of Kashmiris to killings, enforced disappearances, and illegal detentions. He accused India of now attempting demographic engineering by settling non-Kashmiris in the region, violating international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The Hurriyat leader appealed to the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the international community to take immediate notice of India’s illegal occupation, human rights violations, and demographic changes, and to play an active role in ensuring the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
He reaffirmed that the Kashmiri freedom movement will continue peacefully and resolutely until the people of Jammu and Kashmir achieve their internationally recognized right to self-determination.
