Quetta, October 16, 2025 — Balochistan Governor Jafar Khan Mandokhail has underscored the urgent need to expand Quetta’s healthcare infrastructure, emphasizing that the city’s 4 million residents are being served by only two or three hospitals. Speaking at a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar organized by BUITEMS University in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), he called for the establishment of a state-of-the-art 2,000-bed hospital to address the city’s medical needs.
He said the proposed facility would provide advanced diagnosis, preventive measures, and improved survival rates for breast cancer patients. “Health care in Quetta must match the aspirations of its people,” he added.
Governor Mandokhail stressed that breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide and that awareness at the Union Council level is vital for prevention and early detection. He also highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and healthy weight in reducing cancer risk.
Praising WHO and BUITEMS for organizing the seminar, the Governor urged all public-sector universities to collaborate for a healthier and progressive future for the next generation. At the end of the event, he distributed commemorative shields and certificates among participants and organizers.
