Punjab Traffic Carnage: 20 Dead, 1,761 Injured in 1,494 Road Accidents

Lahore, 19 October 2025: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) reported responding to 1,494 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab in the last 24 hours. The tragic accidents claimed 20 lives and left 1,761 people injured. Of these, 767 sustained serious injuries and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, while 994 victims with minor injuries received on-site medical treatment, helping reduce pressure on hospitals.

Motorbike Accidents Dominate: Motorbikes accounted for 76% of all crashes, emphasizing the urgent need for strict traffic law enforcement and proper lane discipline to curb rising accidents.

Victim Statistics: Among the victims were 956 drivers, 82 underage drivers, 668 passengers, and 157 pedestrians. Lahore reported the highest number of accidents with 281 incidents affecting 347 people, followed by Faisalabad (100 crashes, 118 victims) and Multan (98 crashes, 112 victims).

Demographics: Of the total 1,781 victims, 1,440 were male and 351 female. Age-wise, 392 were under 18 years, 843 were aged 18–40, and 546 were above 40 years.

Vehicles Involved: The crashes involved 1,454 motorbikes, 97 auto-rickshaws, 175 cars, 28 vans, 17 passenger buses, 46 trucks, and 154 other vehicles including slow-moving carts.

ESD Spokesperson Statement: “Strict compliance with traffic regulations, speed limits, and lane discipline is critical to reduce the growing number of road accidents across Punjab,” said the spokesperson.
