Khyber, Nov 2, 2025: A dramatic protest erupted in Landi Kotal, District Khyber, as local cricketer Shah Fahad Amir and his father, Amir Nawaz Shinwari, staged a fiery demonstration against alleged nepotism and merit violations in Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selections for Under-15, 17, and 19 trials.
The protest took place at Bacha Khan Chowk, Landi Kotal Bazaar, after the father-son duo claimed that the District Khyber selectors excluded Shah Fahad Amir from the squads despite his age and strong performance in recent Challenge Cup matches. In a shocking display of frustration, Amir Nawaz Shinwari poured petrol on his son’s cricket kits and set them ablaze.
Speaking to media, Amir Nawaz accused District Khyber selectors, particularly Tehmur Afridi, of favoring personal favorites over talented players. He emphasized that his son meets the age criteria for the Under-19 category and has consistently delivered impressive performances, yet was unfairly overlooked.
He urged the PCB chairman and senior officials to launch an immediate inquiry into the selection committee’s decisions and restore merit-based selections, allowing genuine talent to thrive in the region.
