ISLAMABAD, Nov 4: The Orange Line Metro Rail Transit (OLMT) Lahore, Pakistan’s first electric railway under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has completed five years of safe and successful operations. A grand ceremony marking the milestone was held at the project’s Head Office, Depot Harbanspura, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday.
Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren congratulated all stakeholders, commending the metro for its uninterrupted and efficient performance. He said the project was not merely a gift but a joint venture that reflects transparency, shared responsibility, and the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China.
“This is not only an infrastructure project but a welfare initiative that enhances people’s quality of life, reduces pollution, and strengthens our bilateral bond,” Zhao said.
Orange Line CEO Tan Zidong highlighted the team’s resilience in overcoming national power outages, political unrest, and weather challenges while maintaining continuous service. “Pakistan has become my second home. May the friendship between China and Pakistan remain everlasting,” he added.
The event featured an awards ceremony honoring key contributors, unveiling of a commemorative plaque marking 270 million passengers, and a cake-cutting celebration symbolizing five years of partnership and progress.
