Khyber, Nov 5: The largest football event in the region, the All-Pakistan Hossamuddin and Liaqat Memorial Football Tournament, concluded in a thrilling and memorable fashion at Khyber. In an intense final, Shinwari Sattori Football Club faced Pak Shinwari Football Club in a nail-biting contest that remained tied during regular play and was finally decided through penalty kicks. Pak Shinwari Football Club emerged victorious, claiming the 2025 championship trophy after an edge-of-the-seat finish.

The final match was graced by distinguished guests including Commandant Khyber Rifles Colonel Saeed, District Sports Officer Muhammad Hussain, Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari, and tournament sponsor Zia-ul-Haq Afridi. The stadium was packed to capacity with thousands of spectators who enthusiastically cheered both teams for their outstanding performances.

Organized by Khyber Sports Club, the prestigious tournament featured 64 teams — 32 local and 32 non-local — from across the country. The club’s President Mirajuddin Shinwari, Chairman Wakeel Khan, and General Secretary Kaleemullah Shinwari stated that the primary aim of the tournament was to steer youth away from negative activities and engage them in healthy, productive sports.

They emphasized that Landi Kotal has long been a fertile ground for sports talent, producing national-level players in football and cricket, yet lacks basic sports facilities such as a dedicated sports complex. Despite these challenges, Khyber Sports Club has continued to keep the sporting spirit alive since 1982 by organizing its annual sports festival, offering opportunities to young players through community support.

At the conclusion of the event, the chief guests awarded Rs. 100,000 in cash to the winning team, Pak Shinwari Football Club, and Rs. 50,000 to the runner-up, Shinwari Sattori Football Club. Additional prizes were also distributed among players who delivered exceptional performances during the tournament.

Prominent tribal elders, community leaders, and thousands of sports enthusiasts attended the final match, including Commandant Khyber Rifles Colonel Saeed, District Sports Officer Muhammad Hussain, Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari, Zia-ul-Haq Afridi of Tameer Group, Murad Hussain Afridi, and President of the Customs Clearing Agents Association Mujeeb Shinwari.

The grand football festival of Landi Kotal once again stood as a powerful testament to the youth’s passion, the spirit of peace, and love for sports in Khyber District.
