Hazarganji Chiltan National Park Wildlife Protection: Balochistan Forest Department Provides Feed to Birds and Animals
Independent Report
Quetta, November 8, 2025:
Following directives from Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and Provincial Minister for Forests and Wildlife Sardar Masood Khan Luni, the Balochistan Forest & Wildlife Department has taken decisive measures to protect wildlife at Hazarganji Chiltan National Park. Special instructions from Secretary Forests and Wildlife Abdul Fattah Bhanger guided the department’s efforts to safeguard endangered species and maintain ecological balance.
Under the supervision of Chief Conservator of Wildlife Sharifuddin Baloch, Deputy Conservator of Forest Raja Asif Khosa and field staff distributed 650 kilograms of feed for birds and wild animals, including partridges and quails. This step aims to reduce food shortages caused by prolonged dry conditions in the park. Temporary water points have also been set up to ensure the survival of wildlife.
Raja Asif Khosa stated that Hazarganji Chiltan National Park is a unique ecological treasure of Balochistan, located 20 km from Quetta and covering nearly 27,000 acres. Established as a national park in 1980, it is globally recognized for its biodiversity, rare species, and scenic beauty.
The park is the natural habitat of the Chiltan Markhor, a rare species found only in this region. Other wildlife includes partridges, quails, pheasants, wild hares, and dozens of bird and mammal species. Native vegetation includes wild pistachio (locally called Shna/Gaon), olive, wild fig, and various desert shrubs, all playing a key role in the ecological balance of the region.
Chief Conservator Sharifuddin Baloch emphasized that these initiatives reflect the provincial government’s commitment to wildlife protection, ecological conservation, and the preservation of Balochistan’s natural heritage. Such measures will continue in the future to safeguard the province’s biodiversity and natural beauty.
