The Senate of Pakistan on Friday approved four significant amendment bills affecting the country’s armed forces and the highest judicial institution. The upper house ratified the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill 2025, Pakistan Air Force (Amendment) Bill 2025, Pakistan Navy (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2025, marking a major step in legislative reform.
The bills concerning the armed forces were presented by senior cabinet members. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar introduced amendments for the Pakistan Army and Air Force, while Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif presented the related bill for the Pakistan Navy.
Judicial reforms were also advanced with the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2025, presented in the Senate by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry for consideration.
During other proceedings, the government briefed the Senate on the establishment of a Commercial Disputes Resolution Commission. Minister for Trade Jam Kamal Khan informed the house that the new body is designed to provide an effective and transparent mechanism for resolving trade disputes. He added that professionals from diverse backgrounds have been appointed to ensure the commission functions efficiently.
The government’s financial strategy was also discussed. Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kiani confirmed ongoing efforts to broaden the national tax base, aiming to establish a more balanced tax system in which all sectors contribute their fair share.
