Peshawar, November 23, 2025:

The Khyber Institute of Child Health & Children Hospital (KICH) Peshawar hosted a vibrant celebration of International Children’s Day, attended by representatives from the Pakistan Paediatric Association (PPA), paediatric specialists, UNICEF officials, and provincial health department officers.

The event highlighted the rights of children and underscored the importance of access to play, recreation, and quality education as essential elements for the healthy development and future of every child. Students from the Save-Our-Souls (SOS) School also participated, contributing to the festive and educational atmosphere.

Professor Dr. Amjad Mahboob, Project Director of KICH, provided an update on the hospital’s progress, stating that 95% of civil and technical works have been completed, with the remaining work expected to be finalized within the next two months. He emphasized that the long-delayed project will soon be operational for public service, offering a state-of-the-art children’s hospital and research center.

Dr. Mahboob explained that KICH will be the first specialized government-level children’s hospital providing treatment for all major childhood diseases. Despite a 20-year delay caused by multiple factors, the project has now reached its final stage of completion.

He further stated that essential medical equipment has already arrived, with the rest in the process of delivery and installation. Preparations for hospital beds have been completed, and all civil and technical works—including the oxygen system and central cooling system—are fully functional.

Once operational, the hospital will serve a dual purpose: providing healthcare services for children and acting as a training hub for doctors and healthcare workers, equipping them to serve effectively across the province’s districts.

The event concluded with renewed commitment from all stakeholders to ensure that KICH becomes a beacon of quality pediatric healthcare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
