A recent update introduced by social media platform X has exposed a coordinated network of foreign-backed propaganda accounts engaged in spreading anti-Pakistan narratives, disinformation, and divisive messaging, officials said on Monday.
According to the findings, multiple accounts linked to Afghanistan, India, and the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement were operating under external agendas aimed at fueling political polarization, ethnic discord, and instability within Pakistan. The update further revealed that several India-based digital networks were actively promoting terrorism-related narratives and anti-state messaging.
Investigations show that users operating these accounts attempted to conceal their real locations through VPN services. Many accounts posing as human rights advocates—particularly those commenting on developments in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—were traced back to India and other foreign jurisdictions.
Authorities state that international propaganda cells, disinformation hubs, and offshore digital operations targeting Pakistan’s social cohesion, national security, and public opinion have now been uncovered, exposing systematic efforts to weaponize social media for hostile objectives.
Officials added that various politically motivated campaigns running on X were also being operated from outside Pakistan, confirming long-held concerns regarding foreign interference in the country’s online information space.
